Safety and Visibility
Reflective Self Adhesive Vinyl Graphics and Marking tape has always been incorporated in the livery of front line Emergency Vehicles and the Blue light services, However, more recently the value and benefits of using Reflective Vinyl to make other road users more visible and therefore more able to stay safe, from the Chapter 8 regulations ( details outlined and explained on The Vinyl Corporation web site) which governs the obligatory Vehicle Markings for vehicles required to take part in road works and civil engineering projects. Also the most vulnerable of road users namely cyclists and motor cyclists can now obtain reflective markers for their wheel rims and farings as well as wearing reflective markings on their safety clothing, all these measures are designed to keep ALL the road users safe and the key to this is visibility as demonstrated by these photographs.
REFLECTIVE VINYL COLOURS
The general purpose reflective, self adhesive vinyl, AVERY DENNISON MO500 is currently available in White, often referred to as silver due to it’s reflective characteristics, Blue, Yellow also Orange, Green and Black reflective films are available from The Vinyl Corporation with many different manufacturers specifications, Grades and reflectiveness are available for a wide variety of uses from ROAD SIGNAGE, Boat safety markings, car number plates, safety markers, chemical warnings, railway and oil rig safety signs, etc
WHAT ARE THE GUIDELINES
There are certain “Rules” that are generally adhered to when using Reflective Vinyl on vehicles, for Vehicle Number Plates White reflective plates are required on the front of the vehicle ( except motorcycles and older vehicles) and Yellow reflective number plates are required on the rear of a motor vehicle , When it comes to commercial vehicles the perceived wisdom is that Only Red or Yellow Reflective vinyl should be used on the rear of a vehicle and White should be used on the front, as using White reflective material on the rear of a vehicle could be confusing to other road users and suggest that the vehicle is reversing, as the white reflective marker could be mistaken for a reversing light. For the sides of commercial vehicles Yellow or White reflective bands are prescribed in the ECE 104 regulations. For commercial vehicle graphic designs the only definitive rules are never to use Red Reflective Vinyl on the front or White Reflective markings to the rear of a vehicle.
